FAQ

What is the Hope & Transformation Initiative and why do you exist?
We’re a carer-led, Australian non-profit initiative focused on supporting foster, kinship and adoptive carers so children can thrive. We provide practical mentoring, training, advocacy, and community—built by carers, for carers—using trauma-informed, culturally safe, child-centred practices.
-
What makes the Hope & Transformation Initiative different?
We’re carer-led and child-centred. That means lived experience shapes everything—from program design to policy advocacy. We focus on practical supports that reduce isolation and work on systems change with government and sector partners. Our practice is trauma-informed, culturally safe, and designed for real-life, everyday challenges carers face.
-
What are your core focus areas over the next 12–24 months?
Community & Resources: free newsletters, practical guides, mentorship and peer connection spaces
Training & Education: workshops for carers and sector professionals grounded in lived experience and evidence-based practice.
Advocacy & Insights: elevating carer voices, contributing to consultations, and sharing data-informed recommendations to improve the system.
(We operate NSW-based with a national, online-first approach and will add in-person hubs/events as capacity grows.) -
Who is HTI for?
HTI (Hope & Transformation Initiative) exists for anyone committed to better outcomes for children in care—especially the carers who love and support them every day.
Carers: foster, kinship/relative, permanent care/guardianship, respite and adoptive carers—at any stage (prospective, newly approved, experienced, or returning).
Children & young people in care: the ultimate beneficiaries of everything we do (we support them by strengthening the adults and systems around them).
Sector partners: agencies, caseworkers, ACCOs, educators, clinicians, and researchers seeking practical training, resources, and lived-experience insight.
Community & supporters: employers, faith and community groups, local businesses, and philanthropists who want to help sustain carers and stable placements.
Policymakers & system leaders: government and peak bodies working on reforms informed by carer voice and evidence.

How are you funded and how do you use funds?
We’re funded through a mix of donations, grants, and earned income from training/speaking. Gifts help cover program delivery, platform/insurance/safeguarding costs, and capacity to scale supports nationally. We aim to keep admin lean, publish an annual impact & financial snapshot, and be transparent about outcomes.
Tax note (Australia): We’re progressing formal charity registration and DGR status; we’ll update supporters when tax-deductibility is available. To discuss giving or sponsorship, email info@hopeandtransformationinitiative.com. -
Are you a crisis service or therapy provider?
No. We provide mentoring, community, and education—not clinical, legal, or emergency services. If you or a child is at risk, call 000. For immediate emotional support, please contact your local crisis line (e.g., Lifeline) and your agency after-hours number. We respect privacy and ask mentors and mentees to keep conversations confidential, noting mandatory reporting obligations where safety concerns arise.
